COAL-SLUDGE FIRED FLUIDIZED BED BOILER
Coal mining is a major industry in Kalimantan. There are so many mining site with coal washing process to produce export quality coal for world market. Many of them have capacity to process about 2,000,000 ton of coal every year. It is important to be noted that 5% of the total coal processed will go to the waste sludge-settling pond. For every coal mining company, this 5% waste is a total loss and recorded in their accounting book as loss. Every 3-5 days, fine particle waste coal settled in the pond must be removed by the use of heavy equipment and dump trucks to be filed at the backyard. This waste coal sludge is becoming serious problem to all companies with coal washing. Design fuel is coal-sludge from coal washing process. 35 ton/h boiler can be coupled with 6000 KW condensing steam turbine or used for industrial process. Boiler can burn 100,000 tons of coal sludge each year. Special technology in handling fine particle of coal sludge **Fine particle coal sludge will have to be processed to shape of cylinder. Shaped coal sludge will be fed from the top of the furnace and drop into the fluidizing bed. As it is being shaped, fine particle will not be carried away by the induced draft in the furnace until the mass will touch down to the fluidizing bed. Once shaped mass will sink down to the bed, it will automatically be dispersed in the moving bed effect. **Fly ash can be fed to the furnace again for refiring. **Non-overflow operating technique of bed material is used to keep the stability of fluidized bed.
